4G and 5G evolution: the tortoise and the hare

On December 14th2009 Stockholm and Oslo become the first two cities in the world to have a commercial 4G network. At the time no 4G-enabled device was available in the market while the first 4G-enabled smartphone was launched six months later(!) in June 2010.  In fact, until the end of 2010, there were only two 4G smartphones available, namely, HTC Evo and Samsung Epic 4G. Although Sweden and Norway alongside other pioneer markets made a head start on 4G, it was not until 2015 when 4G accounted for 30% of total mobile subscriptions (excluding M2M subscriptions) in Western Europe, according to the database ‘Prognosis’ by inCITES Consulting.......
